About Omni Layer: Building on the Bitcoin Blockchain

The Omni Layer is an open-source project that functions as a protocol layered on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. Its primary purpose is to empower users to create and exchange digital assets and currencies within the Bitcoin ecosystem. This project boasts a lengthy history, originally known as Mastercoin, and has been in existence since 2013.

One of the most prominent examples of an asset developed on the Omni Layer is USD Tether (USDT), which dominates the protocol, accounting for over 75% of its transactions. Other notable users of the protocol include MaidSafeCoin, Synereo, and Omni itself. The primary objective of the Omni Layer is to maintain the security of the Bitcoin blockchain while facilitating the creation and trading of digital assets.

Several projects, hosted as repositories on the Omni platform, encompass a web wallet, a desktop wallet, and an explorer. Currently, there are 15 repositories available on the Omni GitHub page, although it has been observed to have less activity and fewer contributions in comparison to other open-source projects.

It's worth noting that the Omni Layer website lacks secure encryption. The Omni community maintains an active Reddit forum with over 800 subscribers, offering valuable information and links for users interested in getting started with and utilizing the protocol. Additionally, the Omni Foundation operates a blog that provides regular updates on protocol developments and important insights for the community.
