Late Night Show Host Stephen Colbert Jokes About Bitcoin and Blockchain

Popular comedian, satirist and late night show host Stephen Colbert recently mentioned Bitcoin and blockchain in his opening monologue on 7th, November. Normally he uses these monologues to poke fun at President Donald Trump, his supporters and any notable incident that has happened in the country and around the world.

Thursday night was no different as Colbert started off by going straight after the president and listed a number of boring places he’d rather be rather than listen to than him. They included notoriously boring places like the DMV, the dentist and so on.

The complete monologues goes:

Let’s see, places I’d rather be than a Trump rally off the top of my head: the DMV, the dentist, someone else’s child’s clarinet recital, a Soviet gulag, covered with honey and staked on an anthill, sliding down a 50-foot razor blade into a bathtub of gin….

But he didn’t stop there and continued with a satire of Bitcoin and blockchain industry itself.

“and in conversation with someone that knows a lot about Bitcoin — go on, go on about blockchain”

This is a lighthearted jab at the industry as financial investments and the working of cryptocurrencies are often described as boring by people not involved in the industry. Late night tv show hosts have mentioned the industry before. Colbert’s friend and former Daily Show correspondent John Oliver, who hosts the weekly Last Week Tonight, discussed the industry in detail.

While the show recognized the benefits of the industry, it also pointed out the fairly reasonable issues including volatility and third party scams that can result in people losing their investments. He also touched on the various scams in the industry including the famous BitConnect scandal that was declared a Ponzi scheme by regulators and subsequently banned. In the end, he concluded that Bitcoin may be the future but people need to be careful in their investments or risk losing a lot of it.

Overall, the fact that Bitcoin and Blockchain are becoming major talking points, the industry can only benefit from this increased exposure.
